2012 Diary

2012 will see Lindos welcoming back the Rhodes Rock Festival and Exclusively Lindos are proud to be acting as the main agent for the Rhodes Rockers.  As further news and package information become available we will be updating our Rhodes Rock page.  rhodes-rock-festival

Greek Easter will be celebrated the weekend of 15th April 2012, one week later than British Easter.  Most accommodation will be available throughout April this year; why not banish some winter blues and look forward to an early summer break with us at Easter?  You could enjoy a short stay over the Easter weekend, or treat yourself to a whole week or two!  It is the best time of year many say; the fields are full of wild flowers, the weather is warm and clear and the locals are always ready to welcome you. There is always a sense of anticipation at Easter time for it traditionally marks the start of the tourist season for the Lindians. Email us for suggestions and ideas on accommodation for your stay.

Time for Reflection

The festive period is usually a time of reflection and the Greeks are no exception.  Over the past year as negative news headlines from Greece reach our friends and customers across the globe, one could be forgiven for thinking that the Greeks had very little to celebrate during this holiday season.    On the contrary, in the run up to Christmas and New Year it was good to see the Lindians celebrating a successful 2011 season and welcoming a well earned winter rest.  It is hard to find a pessimistic Lindian!   Locally, work is already beginning with preparations for the 2012 season with improvements to properties, (some of which Exclusively Lindos will be advertising - watch this space) businesses and services.  The olive harvesting is well underway and the Greeks are very much looking forwards, not backwards, and with determination!

Friends often ask about life in Lindos in the winter months.  We always reply, “it's very quiet!”  For those who have made Rhodes their home, how does the Greek festive period differ to the  UK?  Louise asked Clare and Stavros Spinoula from Atmosphere Bar.

Like many other British people, you now call  Greece your home.  Don’t you miss the Christmas and New Year celebrations in the  UK?

I miss the shopping!  We don’t have the same variety of shops here in  Greece.  I miss the feeling of being absolutely freezing and dashing inside to get warm!  I know we can buy almost anything we like with internet shopping, but it’s not the same.    Of course I miss my family, but with Skype and social networking sites I keep in touch on a daily basis.

I think we have similar traditions, we are after all marking events in the Christian calendar which both countries traditionally follow, however, the Greeks don’t celebrate Christmas in the same way we do.  New Year is much more important for them but a lot of the traditions we enjoy in the UK are also enjoyed here such as presents, feasts and family time.

It is a bit strange to eat Roast Turkey with Dolmades and Greek Salad which is what we do on Christmas Day!  We open our presents on New Year’s day, not Christmas Day.  New Year’s day is a huge Saint’s Day, Saint Vasillis, (meaning King).  We get together as a family and have an enormous dinner.  We make a special cake with a coin inside it which we eat on New Year’s day.  Whoever has the slice with the coin will have good luck for the rest of the year, just like the traditional Christmas Pudding in the  UK.

What does 2012 hold for you and Atmosphere Bar?

Hopefully, continued success.  We are a family run business and by the time the season begins, we are ready to leave the peace and quiet of the winter months behind us.  We are ready to welcome old friends back to the village.  I've noticed more visitors during the day time from all over the world, people are definitely visiting Greece, it still remains a top holiday destination in spite of the economic downturn.

Our little boy Nikos will be 1 year old by the summertime so I think our customers will enjoy seeing him at the bar.  We are looking forward to enjoying evenings with Stavros'  father who is now back to his happy and charming self after a few health problems last year.  If anything, 2012 represents a chance to really enjoy our successes!

Clare, Stavros and Nikos Spinoula look forward to welcoming you for a refreshing cocktail or lazy coffee at, Atmosphere Bar, Lindos.

Watch this space for further exciting developments with Exclusively Lindos.   We look forward to seeing you in 2012 and hope that this year brings you peace, happiness and a little bit of Lindos magic!
